Picture it: I am sipping champagne listening to Mozart just before Christmas in the Governor’s Suite at the Langham Hotel in Auckland New Zealand. The fabulous suite is all 83 square metres, seven plush rooms – the works! This is where celebrities and the rich and famous hideaway. A blind man could tell why the Langham in Auckland was named New Zealand’s best hotel in 2007.

It’s quite appropriate that The Lord of the Rings film trilogy was made in picture-postcard New Zealand and that Okuku Country Estate is also like walking back in time – 80 years ago. This is a grand house of the 1920s which has become a poorly-kept secret as one of the most relaxing hideaway lodges in heartland New Zealand.
