A luxury golf resort in New Zealand - Pepper's Clearwater

Pepper’s Clearwater Resort: a dream in Christchurch

Excellent service
Pepper’s Clearwater Resort in Christchurch New Zealand ticks all the dream boxes: Among the best restaurant food in the country, the small of homemade bread and pesto when we arrive in our room,

boathouse villa all overlooking lakes, the biggest beds ever and a bath that feels you are right on top of the lake.

What makes these luxury destinations is the service. Chelsea in reception was so bubbly and helpful, Sheena in the restaurant was outstanding, engaging and professional and Vanessa prepared the bread in our room’s bread maker. Kia ora Vanessa.

Pieceful ambience
A night’s stay here for drinks, dinner, bed and breakfast is well under $1000 and there are last minute deals for much less. But Clearwater Resort has an environmental peaceful ambience that is unmatched in these parts. And it’s less than 10 minutes drive from Christchurch international airport.

Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island, Queenstown, the environmentally protected snow capped landscapes and other eco-tourist gems.

And it is the home of the Zealand PGA golf tournament each year. It is heaven in summer – don’t venture outside on an icy winter’s day like we did. It was a bristling 7Cdeg the day I smashed some driving range golf balls toward Brighton Beach with my left-handed seven iron. It was too cold for round of golf.

While my hands are clasped frozen around my club, my wife Chrissy is getting a massage from masseuse Clair Twohig. Claire twice massaged UK comedian Lenny Henry this week. She previously worked her fingers on singing diva Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s back – but not her voicebox. Years ago she also worked on actor Danny De Vito’s back. She said he was just like he is on tv – funny in real life too.

Top gastronomy
Our evening meal was possibly as good as we have ever had in New Zealand. The seared scallop entree herb crusted groper over cauliflower puree was unbeatable. Clearwater has brilliant restaurant food, superb service, as good as anywhere, the villas are classy and snug, cosy and it’s cathartic just gazing out at the ripples on to the lake: especially from inside the bath. Overall, a big YES for Peppers Clearwater.
