New Moroccan palace hotel in Marrakesh

A 300 year-old city palace in historic Medina

A new luxury hotel in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh officially opened its doors in March 2008.  With only 5 guest rooms , the ultra-exclusive Ana Yela is established in a 300 year-old city palace in the heart of Marrakesh’s historic Medina. The restoration of the building took months and was carried out using only traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, for which Marrakesh is famous throughout the world. All of the work was done by hand, without the use of electric tools, by more than 100 artisans.

“Ana Yela” translates literally as “I am Yela”, and the architecture tells the story of a girl called Yela who once lived in this house. Mohammed Taha, the most renowned Koranic calligrapher in Marrakesh, hammered Yela’s story in silver on the vast doors in chronological order throughout the house, like pages in a book.

Ana Yela: a spectacular work of art

As a result, the hotel itself is a spectacular work of art. Offering its guests exceptionally personal service, its facilities include an open-air restaurant, a heated swimming pool, and a roof garden with a panoramic view over the city. The spacious inner court is available for parties of up to 100 guests.
